Convert a DICOM series to NIfTI.
Open the series, choose Export Series to NIfTI-1 and save a .nii.gz. The file keeps the real slice spacing, holds CT values in Hounsfield units and carries matching qform and sform, so neuroimaging tools can place each voxel in scanner space.
Export a DICOM series as one NIfTI volume.
FSL, SPM, AFNI and most training pipelines read NIfTI, not folders of slices. dcmage sorts the slices by position, applies the rescale values and writes a .nii.gz with a qform and sform in RAS space.
- Slice order sorted by position along the slice normal, not by file name or instance number.
- Modality units rescale slope and intercept are applied, so a CT volume holds Hounsfield units.
- RAS orientation qform and sform are both set, converted from DICOM LPS patient coordinates.
- Geometry checks missing, overlapping or unevenly spaced slices stop the export with a reason.

Open the series
Load the DICOM files of the series from your device, as single-frame slices or one multi-frame file.

Select the series
Click any image of the series you want to export. Only that series is written.

Export to NIfTI
Open Export in the top bar and choose Export Series to NIfTI-1 (.nii.gz), or use the command palette.

Save and check
The browser downloads the file and the Mac app shows a save panel. Check the header with a tool such as fslhd.
Checks that still need judgment
- One series per export, as a 3D volume. Time series are not written as a fourth dimension, and color images are refused.
- No BIDS sidecar is written, so echo time, slice timing and similar metadata stay in the DICOM files.
- The export is refused when slices lack position or orientation, overlap, or are unevenly spaced, for example when a slice is missing.
- Conversion is one way. dcmage does not open NIfTI files.
